Nurturing The Mindset For Spiritual Transformation: A Journey of Faith (Pt 2)

Becoming like Jesus, an enriching journey, is not unlike an explorer traversing diverse landscapes on his way to the summit. This journey, especially in the challenging first few months or years as a new believer, requires specific ways of thinking or mindset.

5. Seek humility in all things.

At its core humility embodies the spirit of recognizing one's own limitations and valuing others' contributions and worth. It involves understanding that every individual is unique and important in God's eyes, and no one is inherently superior to another. This humility is beautifully encapsulated in Philippians 2:3, which advises, "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves." By adopting this mindset, we open ourselves to learning and growth, acknowledging that wisdom and insight can come from any source, regardless of age, status, or experience. It's about seeing the greatness in God's creation and recognizing our own place within that vast tapestry, always aware that God is the ultimate source of all knowledge and wisdom, and it is from Him we receive the grace to grow and learn.

In today's fast-paced and competitive world, the benefits of humility are more relevant than ever. For instance, in the workplace, a humble attitude can lead to more collaborative environments where team members feel valued and heard. This can foster innovation and efficiency, as people are more inclined to share their ideas and feedback openly, knowing their contributions are welcomed and appreciated. Humble leaders are often more effective, as they are seen as approachable and willing to admit their mistakes and learn from them, which in turn inspires their teams to strive for continuous improvement without fear of judgment. In personal relationships, humility allows for deeper connections and understanding, as it encourages listening and empathy, laying the foundation for meaningful and lasting bonds. Through humility, we not only enrich our own lives but also contribute to a more loving and respectful society, reflecting the love and humility of Christ in our daily interactions.

6. Choose to love.

Serving and loving others isn't just a nice thing to do; it's central to our transformation into the likeness of Jesus. Jesus spent His time on earth serving others, from washing His disciples' feet to feeding the hungry and healing the sick. His life was the epitome of service and love, and He made it clear that following Him meant taking up a similar path. In John 13:34-35, Jesus tells us, "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples if you love one another." This isn't just a suggestion. It's a directive for living a life that reflects Christ's character.

When we serve and love others, we're not just doing good deeds; we're allowing God to work through us to touch the lives of those around us. It's like we're mirrors reflecting His love to the world. The beauty of it is that in the process of serving, we are transformed. Our hearts become more aligned with God's heart, and our actions start to naturally flow from a place of genuine love and compassion. It's a win-win situation. The people we serve are uplifted and cared for, and we grow closer to Jesus, becoming more like Him in the process.

Think of it this way: every act of service, no matter how small it may seem, is a step towards becoming the person God designed us to be. It's in the giving of ourselves that we find our true selves. And in loving others, our own hearts are changed, sculpted into a closer likeness of Jesus. That's the kind of transformation that not only impacts our lives but also has the power to change the world around us. So, the next time you're given the chance to serve or show love, remember, it's not just an act of kindness; it's a crucial part of your journey to becoming more like Jesus.

7. Expect to be changed.

Finally, expect to change. Anticipate your transformation. Like traveling to a favorite vacation spot, expect to arrive. As Stephen Covey wrote, “Begin with the end in mind.” Or as someone else said, “If you don’t know where you are going, you will probably end up someplace else.”

Expecting to change is like setting the GPS for your spiritual journey. It's essential for navigating the transformation into the likeness of Jesus. When you start with the expectation that change is not only possible but inevitable, you're priming your heart and mind for the work God wants to do in you. It's like telling yourself, "Okay, I'm ready. Let's do this. God, mold me, shape me, use me." This mindset is crucial because transformation often comes through challenges and growth moments that require us to stretch beyond our comfort zones.

Just consider for a moment the caterpillar. It doesn't become a butterfly by clinging to its caterpillar-ness. It embraces change, allowing a complete transformation to occur. Similarly, when we follow Jesus, we're signing up for a metamorphosis. Paul wrote in Romans 12:2 that we are not to be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of our minds. This transformation process reshapes us from the inside out, influencing our actions, reactions, and how we view the world and the people around us.

Having a mindset of expecting to change means you're ready to take on whatever lessons and growth opportunities come your way, trusting that each step is part of your journey toward becoming more like Jesus. It's acknowledging that you're a work in progress and being excited about the progress part. So, embrace the expectation of change as you walk with Jesus. Yes, it’s about the destination but it is also about becoming more like Him with each step you take. And remember, the best part about expecting to change is seeing how far you've come and knowing it's just a glimpse of where God is taking you.

Going on this spiritual journey with the right mindset is an adventure. Not everything will go wonderfully. But with the right mindset, you’ll learn a lot. You will make some mistakes, but most of all, you’ll grow in amazing ways. Remember, God is with you on this journey, just like a best friend, and He’s cheering you on every step of the way. So as you begin your transformation journey, keep your eyes fixed on Jesus. He will see you becoming more like Him.
